It does take a lot of time and effort to organize a garage or workshop, but the results are worth it. It’s actually quite empowering to know exactly where to go for a specific screwdriver, torque wrench, or ratchet that I need for a particular job. I’m far more efficient now than I’ve ever been, and can concentrate on perfecting my craft rather than trying to remember where I left my pliers. Some people might not care about organization as much as I do, but at this point there’s no way I would want to deal with a messy garage ever again. If you’re thinking about creating your own workspace in your basement or garage, then I recommend getting organized right from the start. Investing some money in pegboards, toolboxes, and oil absorbent pads will put you well on your way to maintaining an efficient and clean workshop!
Shelving: We all know shelves are a great for organizing. With proper installation L Frame brackets can supply a great base for making shelves. The additional shelving creates a place to store boxes that you can’t fit in your attic and they make it easy to get things up off the ground and make more walking room in your garage. Recently I’ve seen a lot of people building shelving around their pegboards to provide a great area to place all of their power tools that come with those fancy hard plastic-carrying cases. This is a great idea for any garage. If you have any special power tools, such as drills, saws, air tools shelves make the perfect place to store those carrying case. One of the most underutilized areas to place shelving is above the garage doors. If you have a ladder it’s a great place that you can create shelving to around the entire perimeter of your garage. This allows even more storage space that is commonly left unused.
Workshops. When you use your garage as a workshop this can be a variety of workshops. It can be used as a paint studio, woodworking, for band rehearsal, or even a man cave. One of the first things that you will need to do is make sure that you clean out any junk in the area. You should either throw things away, keep it, give it away, or have a yard sale. Once this is done, you should paint your garage walls. You can use any color but if you want to give your garage a spacious look you should use white for the walls. Depending on what the workshop you should consider adding some shelving, maybe a pegboard to hang tools on, cabinets, etc. You should also make sure that there is adequate lighting and enough electrical outlets. Some like to work in their shop at night so make sure that there will be enough light to do so. You can also install a light over the work area.
The market has now met the demand for diversity and customization that wall storage consumers have been demanding in the past, the standard white hardboard pegboard is obsolete and costwize only a little cheaper than it’s new modern metal counterpart which is almost endless in the ways it can be customized by the consumer and has many varieties of design, color and utility that would meet any and all detailed requirements of a buyer. This is custom colored pegboard and is made from metal, it is durable and will outlast the traditional hard board peg board by many decades. Designed with utility in mind these metal pegboard panels have both round peg board holes and thin vertical slots placed side by side on the metal wall panels in rows.
If you own a home with a garage, it is likely that you are not making full use of the space that is available. As a matter of fact, the garage tends to be one of the more cluttered areas of the home and it finds its way into this situation over the course of time. After all, the garage is an area of the home that is not open to the public eye in most cases and it is often the choice location for items that do not have any logical place in the home. Before long, we find that the area is cramped and we may not even be able to park a car in the garage as a result. What are some of the things that you can do in order to make more space in the garage?
If you only have limited working space in your garage, you can have your working bench specially made for your needs. If your funds permit, hire a carpenter to build one for you. By hiring a carpenter, you can have special features and designs made in your working bench. If you only have limited funds, you can always buy a do-it-yourself kit and build it yourself. Whatever way you want it done, just be sure to place your bench in an area which does not obstruct foot traffic. Whatever bench your buy or make, be sure it is durable and can last for longer period of time to avoid buying working benches several times.
Light Switch: Another way to modernize your garage is to upgrade the light switch with one that’s illuminated when the lights are off. This eliminates fumbling around looking for the switch while leaning over, and holding the entry door open for enough light to find the switch. Even better, it’s inexpensive and easy to do yourself. With basic knowledge of electricity, all you have to do is turn off the breaker that feeds the switch and wire up the new switch the same way. There are no additional wires to worry about. The end result is a mild orange glow that’s easy to find in the dark. Another option is to add motion sensors to your garage lights so they come on as soon as you open the door. You can even get motion bases that screw into standard sockets. Once installed, all you have to do is screw in the light bulb as usual. This is a clever way to have motion activated lighting without having to do any wiring.
