Light Switch: Another way to modernize your garage is to upgrade the light switch with one that’s illuminated when the lights are off. This eliminates fumbling around looking for the switch while leaning over, and holding the entry door open for enough light to find the switch. Even better, it’s inexpensive and easy to do yourself. With basic knowledge of electricity, all you have to do is turn off the breaker that feeds the switch and wire up the new switch the same way. There are no additional wires to worry about. The end result is a mild orange glow that’s easy to find in the dark. Another option is to add motion sensors to your garage lights so they come on as soon as you open the door. You can even get motion bases that screw into standard sockets. Once installed, all you have to do is screw in the light bulb as usual. This is a clever way to have motion activated lighting without having to do any wiring.
The accessories are just as cheap. The basic 5/8” hook for a standard quarter inch pegboard can be as low as.34 cents each, and many times you can get a lot of them for free when you buy the board itself. These basic hooks are made from heavy duty galvanized steel rods, and have integrated tabs for added safety. You can buy them in various sizes from 5/8” up to three or four inches depending on your needs. You can also get them in different styles, for holding oddly shaped items like pliers, screwdrivers, and many others.
The pegboard storage can be used in the workbench area, to store all the tools that are used in building or repairing things. This way the tools are easily found when needed for use, so there’s no need to go rambling around trying to find something. Working on any project will be a snap with this kind of organization. Another way to use the pegboard garage storage system is to neatly arrange all the gardening tools. Racks and shovels can be hung to get them off the floor. Clippers, pruning shears and other smaller gardening tools can be hung up too. Shelving can be added to hold watering cans and other things that will not be hung. Also a roll of paper towels can be placed on the dowel provided on one of the shelves.
The best wall storage systems you can find are the hardboard and fiberboard wall panels with grooved, pegged, slat, and holed slits which are designed for holding tools and utensils firmly and safely with panel fixtures. Traditionally there was just fibre board panels or pegboards available for consumers these came generally in 4ft by 8ft panels, a quarter inch thick, and had either slits or holes, available for the last 40 years they have served their purpose well but were restricted in utility and function and were not designed for much customization, now you can buy striped pegboard panels or custom colored panels made from metal.
Do you have a garage at home? How do you use your garage? Can you work comfortably inside your garage? Majority of us have our garage at home which serves different purposes. Some families converted their garage to a home-based office, while others use it as a space to work different repair jobs. The answers you provide for these questions will go a long way in helping you determine which type of garage shelves are best suited for your storage needs. To expand on the examples further, if you have heavy items, you will most likely prefer to use metal shelving units as they tend to be a little more sturdy than their plastic counterparts. This, of course, is not to say that the plastic shelves are weak, but for heavy items it is bet to go with the most industrial strength products you can find, otherwise you might find yourself cleaning up a mess of collapsed boxes later down the line. One of the options that is available for this area of the home comes in the form of garage storage systems. These come in almost every shape and size that you can possibly imagine, from shelving units that are going to line the walls of the garage, down to some rather unique items that will hang bicycles, fishing rods, or other relatively unused items from the ceiling. Once you begin to look at the systems that are available for storage in the garage, you will likely be surprised with everything that is available to you.
